At the recently concluded International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) 2024 in Abu Dhabi, two of our core team members played instrumental roles in the success of the event, alongside other distinguished UN-NYG members. Their participation highlights our dedication to shaping the future of nuclear technology and its peaceful applications.
UN-NYG President Owen LeGrone served as Special Representative on the IYNC Board of Directors. He also managed a panel on 3S and Small Modular Reactors and presented his paper, “Space-Based Remote Sensing for International Safeguards: Present and Future.”
Communications Officer Amelia Martin served on the IYNC2024 Programme Committee as Speaker Registration Chair. She presented her insightful paper titled “Crossing the Communication Chasm,” which focused on best practices for communicating complex scientific ideas to non-expert audiences.
Several other UN-NYG members made outstanding contributions, including Brianna Lazerwitz, who moderated Plenary 6 on financing good projects and managed a workshop on strategic energy planning; Brenda Trust, who spoke in Plenary 3 on innovations beyond nuclear power; Sara Kouchebagh, who presented her paper on transforming the nuclear workforce; and Yerdaulet Rakhmatulla, who shared insights into the development of scientists and engineers in non-proliferation. Naser Al-Wsaifer and other members also made valuable contributions.
The participation of our team at IYNC 2024 underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering the professional growth of young nuclear leaders. This event was made successful through the collective efforts of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, IAEA, and other hosts.
