On October 21-22, the Latin American Youth Nuclear Forum took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, organized by ROSATOM and Eletronuclear, with support from the IAEA and CNEN. Representing UN-NYG, Ariana Natalia Colque Murillo joined experts, young professionals, and students from across Latin America to explore the potential of nuclear science and technology.
During the forum, Ariana had the opportunity to network, share the mission of UN-NYG, and engage in panel discussions and workshops. On the second day, she toured the Angra II nuclear power plant and several nuclear facilities in Rio de Janeiro.
The forum fostered exciting discussions, with the IAEA set to compile these insights into a technical document for use in upcoming global events like COP30 and G20. “There is a great interest and willingness among young people in Latin America to work together regionally and in a multidisciplinary way in nuclear technology. The job opportunities in the nuclear industry are vast, and introducing clean and sustainable technology like nuclear power could greatly benefit our entire energy matrix.” – Ariana Natalia Colque Murillo
