On 22 January, UN-NYG members took part in an Energy Planning Workshop led by the IAEA’s Planning and Economic Studies Section (PESS). In teams of two, we projected the energy needs of the fictional country of Ladonia and and built model electrical grids using wind, gas, fossil fuels, and (of course) nuclear power. Based on the cost, carbon output, energy supply, and other factors, participants had a chance to correct the models in the second round. The winners (everyone) were rewarded for their efforts with chocolate. This was a fascinating look at some of the lesser-known assistance that the IAEA provides to its member states.
